The Wine Mine is a unique premium wine “warehouse” in the Temescal district of Oakland with the lowest prices anywhere in the Bay Area. It offers a wide selection of handpicked wines from around the world - from $5 to $105. This is done in a relaxed, but informative, environment where everybody can enjoy the process of picking out wine - be it for a simple meal that evening or something more special for an important get together. We feature fun and informative tastings every Saturday afternoon for only $1 in a convenient location. The environment is intentionally low key reflecting the attitude of the store and the low prices to be found on excellent wines.

At The Wine Mine we strive to provide excellent customer service along with our rock bottom prices which not only beat anyone in the area but are completely competitive with the web. The store is constantly looking for wines that will provide virtually any shopper with something they are looking for. That could be a great bargain wine that delivers value through both low price and excellent quality, an offbeat selection to pair with your upcoming meal or a more expensive wine that has to stand up to critical inspection. Every wine is tasted by the staff before a decision is made to bring it in for our customers. This assures that we can confidently help find what people are looking for - even if they don’t always know what that is!

The Wine Mine was founded by David Sharp, a “reformed” corporate MBA type with lots of retail experience. He decided to pair up that experience with a firm knowledge and love of wine. The store’s name comes from his father’s wine cellar which “Pop” always referred to as “the mine” and from which true gems always seemed to appear. If you surmise that David was exposed to wine at a young age you’re correct and this has given him a lifelong interest in the grape juice so many of us enjoy.

Being a bit of a tightwad (hmm, there’s some influence from “Pop” there also!) , David has long wondered why there isn’t any place in the East Bay that provides hands on knowledge of every one of their wines coupled with truly low prices. Therefore he decided to start one of his own. Although there are many good wine shops in the area, none offer anything close to the rock bottom prices on true gems that can be found at The Mine.

Not only do we have a wide selection of International wines, every Saturday we conduct a wine tasting from 2-5pm, charging only $1 for all all the wines featured. This provides a great way to sample some of the wines in the shop in a fun, informative atmosphere.
The Wine Mine has ample off street parking and is conveniently located at 5427 Telegraph Avenue right off of Highway 24 (and it is easy to get back on in either direction) just north of the Claremont and 51st Street intersections - (click on the “Map and Directions” link at the very top of the page for more)
